It's Been Four Years

I wish I had been a better blogger, but alas that was never the case. However, I would like to give a go one more time. I love writing, and sharing, even if no one is reading. I find it cathartic. In others, I do it for selfish reasons.

I could easily start posting here again. I could delete everything, fix the theme, and start fresh. However, I feel it is better to archive this blog. It's not great, but it is a piece of my history. Again, I am being selfish, or we'll say sentimental to make it sound sweeter. I like being able to look back at it, and I don't want to erase it even if it is rather embarrassing. So, this blog will remain, and I will be creating and posting to a new blog. I sure hope the new one goes better, but only time will tell.

This is how I have been spending my sick day; designing sets on polyvore. Let me know what you think.

The Start of a New Year(My 17th Birthday)

Yesterday marked the start of my last year as a child(in the legal sense). I am officially seventeen years old. *throws confetti and pops open the sparkling cider* This is the last that I can wreak havoc on the world and not face life in prison. I can run around shouting hexes at an imaginary foe. I can skip down the street and sing the Barney theme song. I can still order from the children's menu at restaurants and buy a happy meal at McDonald's.
All fun and games aside, I am actually scared. I now have to start taking responsibility for my actions. I will no longer have adults to rely on. I have to actually make decisions and deal with the consequences. I have to apply to college and financial aid. The decisions I now face will dictate how my life turns out. It is terrifying.
On a less serious note, I had a lovely birthday. I wanted a relaxing and fun day so I chose to go with my family and boyfriend to one of my favorite places, the beach.
I ran around like a crazy person with my sister, Karissa(Kay Kay), and my boyfriend, Kurtis. We buried Kurtis in the sand. He rested through the whole thing and was fine until he got sand in his mouth.
I love him for letting me do this. It was so fun and he was such a good sport. We later walked down the beach and got soaked trying to outrun a wave. After that, we went to a gift shop where I got a small basket of shells.
We then went to the seafood restaurant next door. I got my favorite appetizer, calamari. I expected to get the little fried ones but instead the gave us steamed(?) ones in a garlic butter sauce and fresh ones(they looked like they had just been taken out the ocean and still had tentacles). I love meat but I have issues with food that still looks like it could be alive. That would be why I rarely eat seafood. My sister found it amusing to keep sticking it in my face and pretending they were alive(not amusing). Then when our food arrived(I got clam chowder, it was yummy), my papa decided to tell the waiter that it was my birthday. Which resulted in me and my sister each getting large glasses filled with chocolate mousse. Which was delicious, but very rich and filling. I honestly thought I was going to be sick. I spent the car ride home cuddled into my boyfriend. We made an impromptu stop at a random park cause my sister was feeling sick. To our surprise, they were in the middle of preparing to put on a Shakespeare play. As a theater geek and literature nerd, it was amazing seeing the actors in costume and setting up the stage. It was doubly awesome because I got to appeal to my inner child by playing on the swings and still feel mature because the actors were speaking in old English. After that we went to my grandparent's apartment for cake and presents. I get a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and white icing every year. My mom always surprises me with the design. This year she had them put a yin-yang on the cake.
It was scrumptious. My boyfriend made me a slide show of pictures of me, us and a couple of significant drawings and set it to our song(Smile by Uncle Kracker). It was so sweet. My grandparents got me a new camera(I scratched the lens on my old one) and a blouse. They always buy scratchers for mine and my sister's birthdays but my grandma forgot to pick some up this year. So, after they dropped us all of at home, they went and got me scratchers. I then went on to prove my theory that states "Brittany has horrible luck". I won nothing but the quarter that I was given to scratch them with. Despite that, it was still a fabulous day. I had so much fun at the beach. I had expected it to be windy and freezing. It was actually barely wind and only a little cold. I had such a great day. I can not wait to find out what happens this year. I am nervous for my future and scared but I am also excited and joyous.

Yesterday was my junior prom! I had so much fun! I shall now give you the layout of my wonderful day...bare with me ^_^

8:00 - wake up and realize that i can still sleep

8:45 - my mom barges in to talk with me, thus ruining my slumber

9:15 - trudge downstairs to eat breakfast(raisin bran)

11:00 - after watching two hours of tv, I finally decide i should start getting ready

11:30 - blow dry my hair

11:45 - straighten the bottom layer of my hair and my bangs

12:00 - put on cream and get my hair braided

12:40 - read and listen to music until my hair drys

2:00 - apply more cream and then foundation

3:00 - change into dress and nylons(they took forever to put on because of my nails)

3:30 - time to do my make-up. I ended up experimenting with all my eyeshadows and ended up with a mix or five different ones and black and purple eyeliner. i then had to do about five coats of mascara and finally lipstick could be applied

4:45 - rush downstairs with curling iron and beg my mom to finish curling my hair. she ends up wasting time by digging around for hair accesories

5:10 - my grandparents arrive. my grandma then proceeds to curl my hair

5:30 - I am finally ready. I grab my clutch and rush out the door. My grandma snaps a quick pic as I rush to the car.

5:45 - I arrive at my boyfriend's grandparent's house(after we got lost). Kurtis helps me inside where his family is waiting. He puts the corsage(three white roses with a light purple ribbon) on my wrist and I attempt to put on his boutonniere but I am shaking so much that I can't so his grandma puts it on. We then go to the backyard for pictures.
6:15 - We now head out to eat. This is about the point where I feel I should say that his parents are really great and supportive of us. They let us go in to the restaurant first and then come in a few minutes later. We end up having to wait for about 15 minutes. Which is awkward because this is not a restaurant in which very fancy attire is worn. In other words, we are the only ones dressed up so everyone knows we are here before Prom. We also find out that the hostess has two kids who go to school with us which is awkward because we do not know them.
6:30 - We are seated and find out that we have a hella chill waiter. He just graduated high school a couple years back and played sports so we end up talking. The meal was great minus my small allergic reaction to the salad dressing which I covered up very well if I do say so myself. I also found out that my bf had never had an Arnold Palmer. *cue my shock* It is one of my favorite drinks and for anyone who does not know it then I am sorry for you but it is half lemonade and half iced tea.
7:40 - On the way to Prom now...
8:00 - We arrive at the hotel in which Prom is held. The first person I see that I know well is my Spanish teacher. I love her. We end up talking and hugging and squealing over my shoes(I ended up getting about ten different people complimenting my shoes, which makes them so worth the mess it was to get them). I also should note that at this point I stopped keeping track of time until the end of the night. We met up with friends on the way to take pictures and dropped off our stuff in the room. My school rented out two rooms next to each other. One room was used for photos and they set up a place to drop off whatever we did not want in the other room, which was the actual dance. It had buffet tables across two walls for desserts, snacks and drinks. Then their were tables and the dance floor was down a few steps so it was set apart. I mostly danced with my boyfriend but it was in a group. I had so much fun. I danced with a girl from my drama class a lot and we ended hanging out with her and her bf. A guy that I have a few classes with and met freshman year found it necessary to grin his ass against me then give me a hug. It sounds awkward but it wasn't because that is just how he is. We ended the night with a slow song and my grandparents drove us home. I got home around midnight and slept most of today. It was a blast. I love my friends and my boyfriend. They gave me an amazing night that has left me with wonderful memories.

Brittany is studying for her AP Lang test, completing a history project and preparing for Prom. In other words, she has no free time. This will be a picture blog. I hope you enjoy.
This is just the average Scrabble game between my best friend, Alondra, and myself.

A drawing that now resides in the back cover of my history binder.

This was drawn for my boyfriend. It now resides in the front cover of my history binder.

This is a drawing of Agito from Air Gear. I drew it upon request by my friend, Fernando. It was a gift to him.

This is one of my favorites because I think it is such a cute picture. This is one of the many drawings I have done of it. It reminds me of my boyfriend, Kurtis, and me.

Vampire, Play and Prom Mania

Kitty: Britt, can I tell you a secret?

Me: Sure, what is it?

Kitty: I am really a vampire.

Me: Hm, really? How interesting.*thinks she is joking*

Kitty: Yeah, really.

Me: Vegetarian?

Kitty: No, humans taste better and allow me to be in the sun.

Me: Oh. I see.

*awkward silence*

Kitty: I'm not joking. *she is serious looking*

Me: Sure. I think I have to go now. Michelle is waiting to run lines. *hurriedly walks away*

Sweetie, no matter how much you say you are a vampire, you are not a vampire. I know that it sounds very appealing to you and you really want to believe it, or at least make everyone else believe it, but it is not true. Kitty, as much as I love you, I can not and will not indulge this fantasy. This is not healthy. Especially when you start sucking the blood out of your boyfriend's cut. I am pretty sure that that is detrimental to your health. Also, if you really are a vampire than how in the world would you be able to so peacefully live with us humans whose blood you so desire? Besides, you gulf down actual food faster than I can even take one bite of my muffin. Which, while I am on the topic, is really annoying and rude. I brought the snack and drink so that I would have something to eat and drink because I was actually working all day. When I said you could have a little, that is what I meant. Anything more than a large handful and drink is exceeding what you were given permission to have. In other words, if you want more than that you have to ask. Now, back to the vampire problem. I really do not know why you would choose to be a vampire. Out of all the lies you could have made up about yourself, why vampire? I could only guess that it is because they are popular at the moment and it probably is just to get attention. You really should talk to your counselor about this.

Now, on to more real news. My past two months have revolved around rehearsals and teching for my drama class' spring play. I was usually one of the few people to actually go to a tech Saturday and actually do something. This is frustrating beyond belief for many reasons. First, this puts lot of focus on me to actually do a lot of work. I am a very short and athletically challenged girl. Building, moving and setting up flats and bookcases is not the easiest task to do mostly on my own. Second, I do not fancy to spend my weekend with my drama teacher, especially if it is just me. I will be honest, it is kinda creepy and very awkward. Third, this shows no effort and support from the other cast members which ticks me off. I am spending my Saturday building a set for people who wanted this play while they goof off.

Then, almost everyone decides to not learn their lines and blocking and skip rehearsals. The only people who show up to rehearsals are the people who know their lines. I happen to be a person who learns her lines through repetition, so by other people not knowing their lines, I lose my lines. Also, when a show is double cast and people screw off so much that we end up with having a single cast and having to cast someone previously in a role to a different role because the other two people will not put in the effort or time, there is a problem. Do you understand how much stress it puts on me to have to change my schedule numerous times? I rely on my grandparents, who live across town, to give me rides. I can not just call them last minute to drive me somewhere. I also have an uncle who is out of town a lot. He cancels plans to come see me act, only to find out that it is not the actual night because the cast screws up so much. The second act was a total mess and two people were reading scripts the whole time. One girl, who had a script in her hand, still lost, changed or skipped most of the lines. Almost all the cues to open passages were missed and because we had to put a new person on the lights, we had random blackouts or lights that would not turn on. The show was even canceled by the teacher at one point because he was so fed up.

Finally, on the two actual show days we kinda pulled things together. There were still many mess ups but no one broke character and we actually ended up creating something enjoyable. In fact, Ben even broke a chair during his fight scene with AJ. All in all, it ended up working out but was not anywhere near great. Now that it is over, I have so much more free time.

I now spend my days worrying and preparing for my Junior Prom. I luckily already had a dress(I am using my sophomore homecoming dress) and a boyfriend(no stressing over a date). I was lacking everything else though. The easiest thing to do was to make a nail appointment. Everything else is not so easy. I left my boyfriend with the choice of restaurant. Not the best idea ever. He is more indecisive and worries about my opinion very much. Therefore, this decision took him two weeks(he just decided last week).

Kurtis: So, where would you like to go to dinner?

Me: I already told you, wherever you want is fine. The decision is yours.

Kurtis: Well, um, I am not sure yet.

Me: Well, since you neglected to properly ask me to Prom than this place better be fantastic. I want an underwater aquarium. *I am clearly joking*

Kurtis: So you want to go to *insert local seafood restaurant*?

Me: Um, that is not what I meant but OK.

I still had to order a boutonniere, which took two days of correspondence between us to figure out just what flower he was getting on my corsage so I could coordinate.(If you have not already noticed, we have a bit of a communication problem.) We still do not have a proper schedule planned out.

I was also in need of shoes. I have not only wide feet but thick feet. This makes finding heels that fit near impossible. For almost three weeks I went to every store in my town and the next town and found not a single shoe that fit. Finally, today, I was able to find a pair of heels. I still had to buy padding for the heel so they would fit because I had to buy a size larger to accomodate my irregular feet. Luckily, the store I had to go to for the inserts had cute clutches so I solved that problem as well. I am now just fretting over tomorrow and having to finalize plans and praying that my nails and hair turn out nice.

Review: 5 Centimeters per Second

Several friends had recommended 5 Centimeters per Second. I finally caved in and sat down with Cheez-Its and a cream soda to watch it. The story depicts the growing apart of a boy, Takaki, and a girl, Akari, as they get older. The title is the rate at which a cherry blossom falls. This I take to be sybolic of Takaki and Akari's relationship. They start to fall together but eventually drift apart, like falling cherry blossoms. I may be looking too much into this. Anywhosit, the film from an artistic perspective is wonderful. The scenes are cut and designed beautifully. This film does not fall short of symbolism. However, I still did not really like the film. My main problem is that I do not believe in the depth of the relationship between Akari and Takaki. There are only a few shots from their time together and they do not make me believe that they were good friends. This makes the rest of the film hard to believe and get in to. There needed to be more developement of the relationship at the start. They needed to show the happiness of the relationship during their childhood more instead of jumping right into the sadness of their departure.
